I just completed Dara Horn’s The World To Come this morning. It is a decent book, and although I am wary of judging things in a negative way, I just wish that the characters could have been focused on longer and more in depth. Some of the characters just seemed flat or boring or something. One thing I really liked was the idea of the world where we live before we become humans and the idea that we knew paradise once but were made to forget it when we came to earth. The story kept me hooked and reading, it was just not as magical to me as Foer’s novels and I probably wouldn’t call this one of my favorite reads. It did, however, make me become more interested in Chagall:
and I guess that is enough to have been worth reading the book for and I would probably recommend the book anyway, only because it was a pleasant read. I don’t feel like a can completely dump on something if I finished it, I just wasn’t completely charmed.
